Senior Advisor to the General Counsel

Frederick Pfaeffle Arana was appointed by the White House as Senior Advisor to the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).   His portfolio at DOE includes equity, diversity and inclusion, Justice 40, Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other DOE program funding, including in Puerto Rico, and critical litigation and Congressional oversight.  He came from the private sector where he litigated environmental disputes and performed civil rights work. Mr. Pfaeffle also served two terms for the Obama Administration as Principal Deputy General Counsel and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Prior to his federal service, he served as Principal Deputy County Counsel with the County of Los Angeles, responsible for public works and environmental litigation and advice. Mr. Pfaeffle received his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California in L.A. and his Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida International University in Miami, where he started his career in public accounting. He was raised in Latin America and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
