Dr. Akhil Datta-Gupta is Regents Professor, University Distinguished Professor and holder of L. F. Peterson ‘36 Endowed Chair in Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX (USA). Prior to joining Texas A&M, he worked for BP Exploration/BP Research and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Datta-Gupta is known for his contributions to high resolution reservoir simulation and inverse modeling for subsurface characterization related to oil & gas and carbon storage applications. He was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas in 2012. Dr. Datta-Gupta is a Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Honorary Member (the highest honor bestowed by the society) and received two of the top three technical awards (Carll Award, 2009; Uren Award, 2003) for his contributions related to reservoir characterization and 3-D streamline simulation. He is a recipient of 2015 SPE Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty and, a SPE distinguished member (elected, 2001), distinguished lecturer (1999-2000) and distinguished author (2000). In addition to his SPE awards, he is recipient of the AIME Rossiter W. Raymond award (1992), the U.S. Department of Energy Award for Outstanding Contributions to Basic Research in Geosciences (2008) and the SURA (Southeastern Universities Research Association) Distinguished Scientist Award (2019). He served as member of the Polar Research Board (2001-2004), the Unconventional Reservoir Roundtable (2016-2018) of the National Academy of Sciences and the Technology Task Force of the National Petroleum Council (2007). He is author of over 100 peer reviewed papers and 4 books.
